The interruption began on October 11 when Storm Alice hit the Mar Menor and Campo de Cartagena regions, causing damage to the Nuevo Canal de Cartagena. The disruption forced authorities to impose temporary water-use restrictions to ensure residents’ safety. Intensive Repair and Cleaning Work Teams from the Taibilla Canals Community (MCT) worked intensively to restore normal service. Their efforts included cleaning and disinfecting the 20-kilometre stretch of the damaged canal and water tanks in key locations such as Roldán, Balsicas, and El Mirador. “This was a priority for us,” said an MCT spokesperson. “Our teams have worked day and night to ensure residents can return to normal life as soon as possible.” Water flow restored along entire canal The Nuevo Canal de Cartagena stretches for 70 kilometres, running from La Pedrera in Alicante to Tentegorra in Cartagena. Water now flows normally along the entire length of the canal, ensuring all villages served by it receive clean, safe water once again. Authorities are gradually restoring full operations and expect all services to be back to normal very soon.
