Tamil Nadu: Candidates up to 40 years of age could now get admitted into UG courses in arts and science colleges

Candidates up to 40 years of age could now get admitted into undergraduate programmes in government, government-aided and self-financing arts and science colleges in the State from 2025-26 academic year. The Tamil Nadu government has issued an order relaxing the upper age limit last week.
In case of candidates who are persons with disabilities, the upper age limit could further be relaxed by five years and in case of candidates in SC/SCA/ST/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC, the upper age limit could further be relaxed by three years, according to the G.O. issued by the Higher Education Department.
Earlier, the upper age limit for admission to UG courses was 21 years as on July 1 of the academic year. The age relaxation for persons with disabilities was for five years and in case of candidates in SC/SCA/ST/BC/BCM/MBC/DNC, the relaxation was for three years.
The State government’s decision followed representations received from heads of educational institutions through the Commissioner of Collegiate Education. There was a request for relaxing the upper age limit for admission into undergraduate programmes in government, State-aided and self-financing arts and science colleges in the State.
