Tajikistan delivers 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan’s Nangarhar - Daryo.uz

The first shipment of 3,000 tons of humanitarian aid from Tajikistan has arrived in Nangarhar province to support families affected by the recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, according to Ariana news. The aid includes essential food and non-food items aimed at assisting earthquake survivors in Nangarhar and Kunar provinces.

At a formal handover ceremony in Jalalabad, Tajikistan’s Ambassador to Afghanistan, Saeed Sharifi, highlighted the longstanding ethnic, religious, linguistic, cultural, and historical ties between the two neighboring countries. He expressed hope that bilateral cooperation would continue to grow across multiple sectors.

Azizullah Mustafa, Deputy Governor of Nangarhar, thanked the government and people of Tajikistan for the timely assistance.

“Afghanistan and Tajikistan are two Muslim nations with shared values and close ties. No border can divide the bond that exists between us,” he said, emphasizing the importance of the aid, which includes construction materials, food supplies, and other essentials.

Officials noted that the 3,000 tons of aid are being transported via 120 trucks, nine of which have already reached Jalalabad. The consignment contains cement, steel rebar, wooden planks, tents, handcarts, rice, sugar, cooking oil, cream, macaroni, flour, and other critical supplies.

The earthquake, which struck eastern Afghanistan on August 31, killed more than 2,400 people and injured around 3,600 others. Thousands of homes were destroyed, leaving communities in urgent need of humanitarian support.

Earlier, Uzbekistan sent nearly 300 tons of humanitarian aid to Afghanistan’s Balkh region to support victims of the recent earthquake in Kunar and Nangarhar provinces. The shipment, sent under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s instructions, included food, blankets, and over 10 tons of medicines and medical supplies.
