Teasdale Foods, Inc., is recalling certain Martin’s and Giant Crunchy Taco Dinner Kits and Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kits due to fears the products contain undeclared milk. Newsweek reached out to the company via email on Tuesday for comment. Why It Matters Numerous public health alerts and recalls have been initiated this year because of the potential for damaged products, foodborne illness, contamination and undeclared food allergens. Millions of Americans experience food sensitivities or allergies every year. According to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the nine "major" food allergens in the United States are eggs, milk, fish, wheat, soybeans, crustacean shellfish, sesame, tree nuts and peanuts. "People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products," the alert warns. What To Know According to the alert, the Martin’s and Giant Crunchy Taco Dinner Kits that are impacted have a lot code number of 25257 and a best-by date of March 13, 2026. The product has a UPC number of 68826757516 and is packaged in a purple box, the alert notes. The Casa Mamita Soft Taco Dinner Kits impacted have a lot code number of 25259 and UPC number 4099100318715. The best-by date for the product is March 15, 2026, and it's packaged in a blue and yellow box. According to the alert, there have been no reported illnesses related to the recalled product. The products were distributed to Aldi, Giant and Martin's stores in Alabama, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, Wisconsin and West Virginia, the alert says. Below is a map of the impacted states: What People Are Saying The alert, in part: "The recall was initiated after the company received consumer complaints the Taco Dinner Kits contained cocoa mix packets containing milk instead of taco seasoning packets and were distributed in packaging that did not reveal the presence of milk. Subsequent investigation indicates the problem was caused by mislabeling of the taco seasoning packets by the third party that provides the seasoning." What Happens Next People who have purchased the recalled taco kits are urged to return them to the original place of purchase for a full refund, the alert says.
