T-Mobile's credit card fixes a problem of the carrier's own making

T-Mobile has officially launched its credit card, and unsurprisingly, it's a card centered around offering attractive perks and bonuses to Un-carrier faithful (via PhoneArena). But one of those bonuses is one that T-Mobile took away some time ago, meaning in some ways, T-Mobile is offering you a solution to a problem of its own making. Here's everything the T-Mobile Visa credit card offers. Great bonuses (if you do everything through T-Mobile) It's no surprise that a T-Mobile-branded credit card would want you do basically everything through T-Mobile's services, but this credit card offers a lot to those who don't mind doing things through T-Mobile's portals. You'll get 5% in reward points whenever you buy a smartphone, device, or phone accessories from T-Mobile using your credit card. You'll also get $5 off your T-Mobile bill if you use the AutoPay — and in fact, this is the only credit card that can be used with AutoPay, giving those who prefer the security of credit cards a better option to pay with. However, it's important to remember T-Mobile imposed those restrictions itself, so it's a little bit cynical of it to celebrate this particular fact. There's also a blanket 2% rewards on all spending done through the card, which is a nice bonus for your non-T-Mobile spending. That bonus on all spending also applies to purchases you make through your T-Life app, and on bonuses you get through T-Mobile's Magenta reward service. Cardholders will also get 50% off some hotels and up to 45% off Pay Now rental cars — as long as you book through T-Mobile Travel, of course. And finally, for a limited time, card owners will get 25 cents off every gallon of fuel purchased on a Tuesday through Shell Fuel Rewards. That discount only applies up to 20 gallons, and ends on December 23, so it's a good time to make sure you have enough fuel for the holidays. Great for Un-carrier fans, but we wish T-Mobile would free up AutoPay T-Mobile is being generous with its rewards scheme on this card, and there's a lot here to reward fans of the company. It's clear this launch is hoped to clear some of the storm clouds that have surrounded T-Mobile in recent months, with hikes to prices and fees happening in the last year. However, we wish T-Mobile would do more to change its rules about AutoPay and credit cards. In fairness, doing so had never really been allowed, but T-Mobile had previously turned a blind eye to it — until recently, when it began enforcing the rule. Previously, customers had been able to use their credit cards for AutoPay, getting them additional security or rewards points into the bargain. However, T-Mobile forced customers to switch to either debit or bank AutoPay in order to keep the $5-per-line discount. Now, if you want the bonuses from using a credit card to pay T-Mobile through AutoPay, you have to stick with T-Mobile's own. Which seems unfair. Still, even with that blighting the card, it's clear this is a very good deal for loyal T-Mobile customers, and will especially benefit those who already get the most out of their rewards.
