Symphony’s new stage

After years of back-and-forth, promises, and planning, it finally looks like the Balearic Symphony Orchestra is about to get the new home it deserves.

Palma’s town hall has just approved the long-awaited headquarters project, and the so-called Caja de Musica (literally “Music Box”) is no longer just an idea on paper.

The new cultural hub will rise at the rear of Can Palou Park, which itself is under construction. More than just four walls for rehearsals, the Parc de la Música is being designed as a dynamic cultural space. Plans include an outdoor amphitheatre that can welcome up to 1,000 people, equipped with a 360-degree sound system and a massive 16-by-10 metre screen. It’s clear that this isn’t just for the orchestra — it’s for the whole community.

Families will find a new children’s play area, fountains, and easy access via a planned car park. The project forms part of the larger Palma Culture & Innovation Bay initiative in Nou Llevant, near the landmark GESA building.

The investment is estimated to cost €7.9 million, signalling Palma’s commitment to music and culture. After years of waiting, the Balearic Symphony Orchestra’s new stage is finally becoming a reality.
