Sydney Sweeney’s biographical sports drama, Christy, has opened to one of the worst wide-release domestic box office results in recent history. The film, which tells the true story of pioneering boxer Christy Martin (played by Sweeney), was released theatrically on November 7, 2025.Over its opening weekend, the film grossed an estimated $1.3 million across more than 2,000 theaters. This per-theater average of just $649 placed the film among the all-time bottom ten wide releases. Notably, it is comparable to 2024 animated feature, Hitpig, which opened with $1,154,144.According to Box Office Mojo, Christy now stands at the tenth position for the worst wide openings of all time among new releases. This ranking places it right behind films that struggled with limited, specific, or disrupted releases, such as Dune: Part One and Scoob!Sweeney has experienced a noticeably mixed performance at the 2025 box office, with several projects failing to gain momentum in their opening weekends. These projects include the historical survival thriller Eden and the crime thriller Americana, each of which opened to a poor box office debut with $1.9 million and $500,000, respectively.A day after the film's release, Sweeney made an Instagram post reminiscing about her time on the film's set.
