‘Swasth Nari Sashakth Parivar Abhiyan’: 15K medical camps for women launched across State

Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar announced on Wednesday that 15,672 medical camps have been set up across the State, as part of ‘Swasth Nari Sashakth Parivar Abhiyan,’ a State-wide initiative focused on women’s health and family empowerment.

Speaking at the launch event, the Minister said that nearly 80,000 individuals had undergone medical tests since the programme began. Currently over 8,200 specialist doctors, supported by more than 4,000 staff are conducting health check-ups for women across these camps.

Mr. Satya Kumar said: “Through the camps free tests are being conducted for women including blood pressure, diabetes, oral cancer, breast cancer, cervical cancer, and other diseases. He noted that under the Non-Communicable Diseases (NCD-3.0) survey, oral cancer screening received good response, but participation in cervical and breast cancer screenings was limited. He said: “Many women are still hesitant to come forward for these tests, while some lack awareness altogether.”

He stressed on the importance of early detection through preventive screening and that the government would conduct another round of the survey. He shared that around 14 lakh tribal people have been screened for sickle cell disease, and the government is ensuring proper treatment for those diagnosed.

Mr. Satya Kumar said that the Union Government is prioritising women’s empowerment, and Prime Minister Modi has allotted prime portfolios to women leaders.
