Swara Bhasker Recalls Texting Aditya Chopra For A Role Opposite Salman Khan: 'He Said, No, I Don’t Think So’

Swara Bhasker has always been known for her unfiltered honesty — both on and off screen. In a recent chat with Bollywood Bubble, the actor opened up about how she’s never been afraid to ask for work, even if it meant directly reaching out to big filmmakers. One such moment, she revealed, involved filmmaker Aditya Chopra and a bold request to be cast opposite Salman Khan in Sultan. “I actually texted Aditya Chopra once and said, ‘Sir, I think you should cast me; I’ll make a very good wrestler,’” Swara shared with a laugh. “He replied, ‘No, I don’t think so, Swara.’ I said, ‘Okay, theek hai.’” The filmmaker’s polite refusal didn’t discourage her. Instead, it reaffirmed Swara’s belief that in an industry built on networks and visibility, outsiders have to make their own doors. “We Are Outsiders — I’ve Taken Everything on My Own Terms” Reflecting on her journey, Swara explained why she’s never hesitated to reach out for roles. “Look, if we maintain too much lihaaz-vihaj (formality and restraint), we won’t get work. We are outsiders, right? I didn’t have anyone who could call and recommend me. Maine jo bhi kiya hai, maine cheen-cheen ke liya hai, ya apne dum pe — jaise bhi mila mujhe,” she said. The Raanjhanaa actor admitted that while she may not enjoy the act of asking, she sees no shame in it. “I’m very polite in every other aspect of my life, but kaam maangne mein mujhe kabhi sharam nahi aayi kisi se. I think it’s completely fine — I should ask for it. I always say, ‘I’d love to work with you. Please cast me, consider kar lijiye.’” However, she revealed that ever since becoming a mother, she’s taken a break from that hustle. “After I became pregnant, I haven’t asked anyone for work,” she added. From ‘Sultan’ to ‘Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo’ While Swara didn’t end up working with Salman Khan in Sultan, fate still had its plans. The actor played his on-screen sister in the 2015 family drama Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo, directed by Sooraj Barjatya. The film, known for its opulent sets and old-school charm, became one of the biggest hits of that year. “Sultan”, released a year later in 2016, went on to become a sports drama phenomenon. Directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films, it featured Salman Khan and Anushka Sharma as wrestlers navigating love, fame, and redemption. With a worldwide collection of over ₹600 crore, the film remains one of Salman’s biggest blockbusters. Swara Bhasker’s New Chapter Today, Swara is embracing a new role — both personally and professionally. The actor, who married political activist Fahad Ahmad, is now part of the reality show Pati Patni Aur Panga alongside her husband. Hosted by Sonali Bendre and Munawar Faruqui, the show puts celebrity couples through light-hearted but revealing challenges that test their bond and communication. The series, streaming on JioHotstar, marks yet another bold turn in Swara’s eclectic career — one defined by conviction, courage, and her refusal to play by the rulebook.
