SVSU students invited to explore downtown Bay City at Hell’s Half Mile event

BAY CITY, MI — Saginaw Valley State University students will have an opportunity to discover the attractions of downtown Bay City during a special event later this month.
Cardinals at Hell’s Half Mile will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, offering SVSU students a chance to experience local shops, restaurants and cultural venues in the waterfront community.
The placemaking initiative aims to connect college students with Bay County’s business district while providing free access to the Hell’s Half Mile Film Festival.
“Cardinals at Hell’s Half Mile is about more than a day downtown, it’s about introducing students to the welcoming community they can call home during their college years and beyond,” said Sara Parker, the director of workforce development at the Bay Area Chamber of Commerce. “We want students to see themselves not just as visitors, but as an important part of Bay County’s future workforce, culture, and community life.”
Organizers have arranged complimentary bus transportation through Bay Metro to bring students from campus to downtown, ensuring accessibility for all interested participants.
The event represents a collaborative effort between Hey, Bay City!, the Hell’s Half Mile Film & Music Festival, Downtown Bay City, and Saginaw Valley State University.
Students are encouraged to wear Cardinal-themed attire while exploring downtown.
