Sux 6: The Best Things to Do in Siouxland

Sux 6: The Best Things to Do in Siouxland

1 Band of Brothers!
Nope, Not Quite Brothers aren’t blood relatives. The five guys who make up this Iowa-based quintet are simply “as tight as brothers.” Will this familial bond be on display when this popular cover band plays an 8 p.m. Friday show at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino’s Anthem, 111 Third St.? You be the judge.
2 Blues Clues!
We’re ready to make a prediction: D.K. Harrell will be the blues world’s next big thing. With his stinging, single-note string bending, deep soul vocals, and attention-grabbing original songs, this 27-year-old will blow you away. See him live at 8 p.m. Friday at Vangarde Arts, 416 Pierce St.
3 Uniquely indigenous!
Enjoy a unique evening of indigenous food (prepared by master chef Anthony Warrior) and indigenous entertainment (by the renowned Many Moccasins Dance Troupe) at the Winnebago Health Foundation’s “An Evening of Culture,” beginning at 6 p.m. Friday at Country Celebrations, 5606 Hamilton Blvd. The theme for this year’s fundraiser happens to be “Food is Medicine.” Does that mean we can grab a second helping?
4 Short films, tall ambitions!
Does size matter? Well, nearly 60 films — ranging in length from two minutes to 20 minutes — will be screened as part of the 20th annual Sioux City International Film Festival, Thursday — Sunday at the Promenade Cinema, 924 Fourth St. When your average superhero movie runs longer than a Super Bowl telecast, be thankful for filmmakers who understand that less is more!
5 Go Muskies!
Here’s a sure sign that summer is over. The Sioux City Musketeers are back for their home opener at 7 p.m. Friday at the Tyson Events Center, 401 Gordon Drive. They’ll be battling their longtime Interstate rivals The Sioux Falls Stampede.
6 Burn Book-ready?
The cocktail connoisseurs at The Warp Zone, 611 Fifth St., will have their work cut out for them during a special 8 p.m. Friday “Mean Girls” theme night. The only thing we can think of is a “Is Butter a Carb?” Hot Buttered Rum and, then, we got nothing.
