A government school teacher in Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district was suspended after several parents alleged that he was teaching Namaz poses to the students. The teacher has issued a statement on social media calling the allegations “baseless”. He claimed that it was a “yoga pose” misinterpreted for a “namaz pose”. The incident sparked a controversy and prompted an investigation by district education officials in the Deori village. The suspended teacher, Jaboor Ahmed Tadvi, said he was following government instructions to teach yoga to students in schools. He claimed that a particular yoga pose, Shashankasana, was mistaken as a namaz posture. “The children were simply practising yoga. The pose was mistaken for namaz. Suspending me without hearing my side is unjust,” Tadvi’s statement reads. The District Education Officer (DEO) suspended the teacher after visiting the school and speaking with the children. A video of his interaction with the students went viral on social media. In the video, students confessed that the teacher was teaching them how to perform Namaz before Surya Namaskar during morning prayers. As per the local media reports, the incident sparked outrage and the members of the Hindu Jagran Manch reached the school on Friday. They raised questions about the incident and demanded strict action.
