Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken has disclosed that the suspected terrorist, responsible for the deadly bomb attack in Georgetown on Sunday, is Venezuelan national Daniel Alexander Ramirez Peodomo, who is linked to a gang in the Spanish-speaking country. He was arrested today at Vergenoegen sideline dam, East Bank Essequibo, by a team of police officers who were acting on information received. Hicken told a press conference today that the Guyana Police Force is working to determine whether the terror attack was part of an organised network. Meanwhile, he said as investigations continue, authorities will pursue charges such as terrorism, murder, attempted murder, and malicious damage to property. Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said the suspected terrorist entered Guyana illegally via a boat on the same day of the attack, at around 8:00hrs. The suspected terrorist was allegedly assisted by Venezuelans and Guyanese in the country. Blanhum said the suspect is cooperating with authorities and has already given a confession. The suspect told investigators that the explosive device was brought in from Venezuela and it was activated by a switch, which he triggered. Just before 19:30hrs on Sunday, an explosive device planted at the Mobil Gas Station detonated, resulting in the death of six-year-old girl Soraya Bourne and injuries to several other persons, including two other children.
