ALMONT, MI – An alleged active shooter was shot by police before being taken into custody after fleeing from a business in Almont Township Wednesday morning, Nov. 5. The Almont Police Department responded to the shooting at approximately 8:20 a.m., according to a news release from the department. Police did not say what type of business it was or where in the township it was located. One victim was transported to a local hospital. Police are unsure sure of the victim’s condition. The suspect allegedly fled the scene and was shot by police before being taken into custody by another responding agency, according to officials. The Lapeer County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from Michigan State Police to investigate the police-involved shooting in the 2000 block of Sutton Road in Lapeer County, according to MSP officials. The suspect’s condition is unknown. The public is being asked to avoid the area while an investigation is conducted. Police said there is no ongoing threat to the public. No further details were immediately available.
