Suryakumar Yadav's Touching Gesture for Heartbroken Dunith Wellalage Wins Hearts; Video Goes Viral

India captain Suryakumar Yadav met with Sri Lanka all-rounder Dunith Wellalage after the Asia Cup match at the Dubai International Stadium. In the video shared by official broadcaster Sony Sports, Suryakumar Yadav could be seen walking up to Wellalage, placing his hand on his shoulder, and offering some words of wisdom. For the unversed, Wellalage had lost his father during Sri Lanka’s match against Afghanistan. Sanath Jayasuriya broke the news to Wellalage after the match, following which he rushed back to Colombo to take part in the last rites. Wellalage, however, showed tremendous courage and joined the team before the Bangladesh game. He didn’t have a great outing and was dropped from the playing XI for the final two games. So Close Yet So Far For Sri LankaHaving lost to Bangladesh and Pakistan, Sri Lanka were out of the final race, but a win over India would have been a huge morale booster before the T20 World Cup. Sri Lanka did most things right, but still couldn’t beat India. Opting to bowl, Sri Lanka were hammered by Abhishek Sharma, who scored 61, his third consecutive fifty, and Tilak Varma (49) who took India to 202-5. This was the daunting total given the past results, but Sri Lanka came out all guns blazing, with Pathum Nissanka scoring 107 and Kusal Perera making 58. At 134-1 in 12 overs, the win looked inevitable, but India staged a strong comeback and forced the match into the Super Over. Arshdeep Singh restricted Sri Lanka to just two, and Suryakumar Yadav got the runs on the first ball of the chase, helping India continue the unbeaten run. India will take on Pakistan in the final on September 28.
