TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Research institute IndexPolitica Indonesia released the results of a survey on presidential candidates, vice-presidential candidates, and political parties for the 2029 General Election. Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa was ranked second in the electability category for presidential candidates, just after President Prabowo Subianto.In this survey, Purbaya even surpassed political figures such as Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, Anies Baswedan, and Ganjar Pranowo."For the top of mind for the 2029 presidential candidate, Prabowo Subianto ranked first with 40.12 percent, while Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa ranked second with 22.50 percent," said Executive Director of IndexPolitica Indonesia, Denny Charter, as quoted from the written statement on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.Following Prabowo and Purbaya, Anies ranked third with 13.40 percent. In fourth place was Ganjar with 7.12 percent. Meanwhile, the electability of Vice President Gibran was at 4.80 percent, still below Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono with 5.12 percent.The electability survey for the 2029 presidential candidate also revealed names such as West Java Governor Dedi Mulyadi (2.50 percent), Minister of Youth and Sports Erick Thohir (1.12 percent), Mohammad Mahfud Mahmodin or Mahfud Md (0.10 percent), and Coordinating Minister for Legal, Human Rights, Immigration, and Law Yusril Ihza Mahendra (0.10 percent).Not only that, Purbaya's name also appeared in the vice-presidential electability survey. Purbaya ranked highest with 28.65 percent, surpassing several political figures such as Dedi Mulyadi (20.15 percent), Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (15.75 percent), and Gibran (12.35 percent).Denny Charter referred to the phenomenon of Finance Minister Purbaya's electability as the Purbaya effect. In a short period, Denny stated that Purbaya managed to gain high popularity with his policies and actions since taking office as Indonesian Finance Minister.The IndexPolitica survey titled Assessing Public Perception on Political Issues Towards the 2029 General Election was conducted from October 1 to 10, 2025, using the multistage random sampling method. The survey consisted of approximately 72 questions with a sample size of 1,610 respondents.
