Sunita Ahuja has opened up once again about the journey of her nearly four-decade-long marriage with actor Govinda. Weeks after Govinda remarked on Prime Video’s talk show Two Much that he “keeps forgiving” his wife for speaking publicly about their relationship, Sunita has responded with a series of heartfelt revelations about the life they have shared. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Sunita recalled the early years of their marriage and the sacrifices she made as Govinda’s career was on the rise. “I’ve done a lot for Govinda. After our marriage, I was sitting mum about it for a year, until Tina (Ahuja) was born,” she revealed. Their wedding, she explained, was deliberately kept secret for a year to ensure it would not impact Govinda’s growing stardom at the time. Sunita added that she remained completely indoors during that period, focusing entirely on building their life together. Despite the challenges, Sunita said she had no regrets about supporting him in every possible way. She credited Govinda’s late mother, Nirmala Devi, as the first and most significant influence in his journey to stardom, acknowledging the struggles she endured to raise him and help him enter films. Sunita noted that after Nirmala Devi passed away in 1996, she began playing a stronger supporting role in Govinda’s life. “A Wife Becomes a Mother Too” Reflecting on their young marriage, Sunita shared that she was only 18 when they tied the knot, while Govinda was seven years older. She admitted that they both had a lot to learn and grow through. “A woman becomes a wife, but also becomes a mother to her husband after a point,” she said, recalling how she navigated parenthood and partnership while still understanding life herself. Sunita described Govinda not just as her husband, but also as her closest friend. “There should be friendship in a marriage, but it should be rooted in the truth. We should be truthful to each other. That’s how such relations last long,” she said, adding that she did not always blame Govinda for keeping certain things from her, believing that he may have done so to protect her, especially due to her health conditions. However, she did question his comments on Two Much. “I have to ask him, what have I done that you need to forgive me? You’ve committed so many mistakes, but I’ve kept forgiving you,” she said, hinting at past conflicts and alleged affairs. She stressed that while mistakes in youth happen, responsibilities must take precedence as life progresses. “A Hero’s Wife Needs A Heart Of Stone” Discussing rumors and realities around being married to a film star, Sunita said that actors spend long periods away and often around glamorous co-stars. This, she said, requires emotional resilience. “Heroes spend more time with heroines than us… you have to be a very strong woman to be a hero’s wife. Your heart should be made of stone.” Sunita also reacted to a conversation on Two Much about emotional versus physical cheating. Calling emotional betrayal especially painful, she said she values loyalty deeply. “I love Govinda to my death. Whoever betrays me, whether it’s my husband or kids, I get very affected,” she admitted, adding that she has never walked away from her marriage, no matter the challenges.
