Minnesota’s hometown carrier, Sun Country Airlines, is soaring to new heights with even more flights taking off from MSP in 2026. The airline’s latest expansion opens the door to new destinations and more nonstop travel options for Minnesotans. MSP Airport Continues to Break Records for Flights and Passengers We know that the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport (MSP) is the largest airport in both the North Star State and our neighboring states of Iowa and Wisconsin. It's also the 18th largest airport in the country. MSP says the 18 airlines-- including Sun Country-- at its two terminals served 163 nonstop destinations from the North Star State in 2023, up from 156 destinations in 2023 and 145 destinations in 2022. MSP is also home to a lot of flights. Overall, MSP saw 324,140 flight operations (both takeoffs and landings) in 2024, up from 323,929 in 2023 and 310,269 in 2022. MSP also averaged 60,644 daily departing seats, up from 56,823 a year ago, an increase of 6.7 percent. According to a release earlier this week, Sun Country said it's ready to go for next year, having extended its selling schedule through September: In addition to the ever-popular summer destinations of Anchorage, Boston, New York, Los Angeles, and Seattle, customers can find convenient and affordable flights to more unique destinations like Traverse City, Michigan and Kalispell and Missoula, Montana. New Sun Country Routes Include Tulsa and Cancun And, Sun Country also noted that it was adding new service from MSP to Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Tulsa and Cancun beginning May 21, 2026. Overall, the release noted that with this extension, you'll be able to book 'nonstop, affordable travel to over 100 destinations through the summer of 2026,' the release said.
