Acclaimed Bengali filmmaker and politician Raj Chakraborty is stepping into the Hindi OTT space with an upcoming romantic thriller series, set to stream on JioHotstar. The project brings together an ensemble cast featuring Parambrata Chatterjee, Sumeet Vyas, Aditi Pohankar, and Priyanshu Painyuli in pivotal roles.
The series, which has completed its shoot across Kolkata and Darjeeling, is currently in post-production. According to a source close to the project, the story explores themes of betrayal and hidden agendas within a relationship, unfolding against the backdrop of Kolkata’s changing socio-political landscape and the hills of Darjeeling. “The series revolves around a relationship tested by betrayal and hidden motives, set against the shifting social and political undercurrents of Kolkata and the hills of Darjeeling. The team has shot several key sequences in Kolkata’s older neighbourhoods and colonial-era buildings,” the source told Mid-Day.
Work on post-production is underway in Mumbai. The platform is expected to confirm the title and release date later this year. “The post-production is currently underway in Mumbai, and the streamer is expected to announce the title and release date later this year,” the source added.
Raj Chakraborty, one of Bengal’s most popular directors, has delivered several hits in regional cinema. Before making his debut in films, he worked extensively in Bengali television. He was closely associated with Zee Bangla’s popular shows Mirakkel, a comedy series hosted by Mir, and Dance Bangla Dance, a dance reality show judged by Mithun Chakraborty, during their early years. Chakraborty also directed I Laugh You, a comedy programme for Star Jalsha. Since 2021, he has been serving as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Barrackpore, West Bengal.
Raj Chakraborty completed his graduation from Rishi Bankim Chandra Colleges, Naihati, which is affiliated with West Bengal State University. Between 1993 and 1995, he was actively involved in theatre, working backstage for several productions in his locality. After finishing his studies, he left home and shifted to Belgachia to pursue a career in acting. In 1996, he relocated to Netaji Nagar, Kolkata, to continue building his career in the entertainment industry.
