Every year, lakhs of youths aim to pass the UPSC Civil Services Examination, renowned as one of the toughest exams in India. Approximately 10 lakh candidates apply, but only around a thousand succeed and secure prestigious positions like IAS, IPS, IRS, and IFS. Among these successful candidates is Kuldeep Dwivedi, who overcame considerable obstacles to become an IRS officer in 2015, achieving the All India 242nd rank.
A native of Sheikhpur, a small village in Nigoh district, Uttar Pradesh, Dwivedi’s family led a humble life. His father, Suryakant Dwivedi, worked as a security guard at Lucknow University, earning just Rs 1,100 and was the primary breadwinner. To support his children’s education and meet household expenses, his father also worked as a laborer in the fields.
Kuldeep Dwivedi was the brightest among his four siblings. Despite difficult circumstances, he never considered his studies a burden. He graduated from Allahabad University in 2009 and obtained a postgraduate degree in 2011.
After completing his post-graduation, Kuldeep began preparing for UPSC. At that time, he neither had a mobile phone nor money for coaching. He used PCO booths to communicate with his family. While preparing for UPSC, he stayed in Allahabad, studied on his own, and borrowed books from other candidates.
