Success Story: At 22 Years, IAS Ananya Singh Cracked UPSC In First Attempt Without Coaching

Succeeding in the UPSC Civil Service Exam within just one year of preparation is a challenging feat. Known as one of the toughest exams in the country, it typically requires candidates to invest many years of hard work and often seek coaching to qualify. However, IAS Ananya Singh has demonstrated that it is possible to achieve success in a shorter time frame. Hailing from Prayagraj, Ananya was the district topper in both her class 10 and class 12 board examinations. Remarkably, she cleared the CSE at the young age of 22. Ananya Singh completed her early education at St. Mary’s Convent School, Prayagraj. She achieved 96 per cent marks in the 10th board exam and 98.25 per cent in the 12th exam. She was the district topper from the CISCE board in both classes 10th and 12th. After completing her 12th grade, Ananya Singh graduated with a degree in Economics Honors from Shri Ram College of Commerce in Delhi. Since childhood, she aspired to become an IAS officer and began preparing for the UPSC exam in her final year of graduation. Ananya Singh shared that her preparation strategy was centred around writing. She dedicated herself to self-study, consistently putting in 7-8 hours of study each day. Once she built a strong foundation, she adjusted her schedule to six hours daily. She prepared for both the UPSC prelims and mains exams simultaneously. To prepare for the exams, she gathered books according to the syllabus and made notes, which she mentioned significantly aided her preparation and revision. Singh stated that writing notes helped her retain the answers better. She also believes that candidates should review previous years’ papers, as questions in certain subjects often get repeated. Singh worked diligently for a year and appeared in the UPSC exam in 2019, securing an All India Rank of 51. She was pleasantly surprised to achieve such a high rank in her first attempt. At just 22 years old, she realised her childhood dream of becoming an IAS officer. Now, she is one of the most sought-after bureaucrats in the country, serving in the West Bengal cadre. She possesses a brilliant mind and is an avid social media user, actively engaging with her 66.8K Instagram followers. She frequently shares charming photos and videos from her daily life. In April 2024, she married IAS Kumar Anurag, who secured rank 48 in UPSC 2018.
