Success Story: 10 Hours Of Daily Self-Study Helped UP's Shivani Verma Clear UPSC ISS

Shivani Verma from Mau district, Uttar Pradesh, has brought pride to her district and state by securing the 12th rank in the Union Public Service Commission’s Indian Statistical Service (ISS) examination. Shivani, a resident of Pyarepura, is the daughter of Jitendra Verma, who runs a goldsmith shop in Mau city. Upon returning to her home in Mau after her successful exam, she was welcomed with flowers by local women. In an interview with Local 18, Shivani mentioned that she received her primary education from Dayanand Bal Vidya Mandir in Mau and completed her intermediate studies at Amrit Public School. She then graduated from Banaras Hindu University (BHU) and earned an MSc from IIT Kanpur. After completing her MSc, she worked as a research analyst for two years before quitting her job to prepare for the Indian Statistical Service. She achieved this success through self-study while residing in Mau. Shivani shared that she succeeded in the UPSC on her second attempt. Although she did not succeed in her first attempt, her family encouraged her to prepare harder, assuring her that she would eventually succeed. Consequently, she started studying in the library for nearly 10 hours daily, which led to her securing the 12th rank nationally. She credited her success to the support of her parents, siblings, teachers, and relatives. Shivani has two brothers and two sisters; one of her sisters is an assistant manager at the Central Bank of India, and her younger brother is still studying. Shivani Verma revealed that her initial dream was to attend IIT, and after completing her MSc from IIT, she began preparing for the UPSC exam. Reaching this stage was challenging, requiring her to maintain distance from others and dedicate 10 hours daily to preparation, leading to her success on the second attempt. Although her dream was to attend IIT, she now plans to further pursue her current achievements.
