Thirty Suburban Reviewers gathered at St. Francis Episcopal Fellowship Hall in Denham Springs on Sept. 3 to begin the club year with a fall-themed luncheon hosted by Susan Jackson, Earline Sceroler, Myra Peak, Cheryl Lass, Ann Kemp, Cissy Grantham and Sara Easterly.
Susan Jackson gifted members each a jar of her home made muscadine jelly, which was surely a labor of love!
President Theresa Dendinger welcomed members back from summer break, with a special welcome for Carolyn Ott, who is returning to active membership. Earline Sceroler, secretary, documented attendance, read the April and May minutes and collected dues.
Club members voted on changes to the constitution and bylaws. Nominations were accepted for a new member.
Following the business meeting, Elise LeBlanc, vice president introduced guest speaker Vicki Turner, from the Livingston Parish Library Alliance, who informed members about the history of the Alliance and its mission, which is to support the preservation and continued growth of the Livingston Parish Library system.
Members were interested to learn the Alliance is a nonpartisan civic group formed when the library system and librarians came under attack, according to a news release. The Alliance’s primary purpose is to keep the public informed on the fight to maintain and support the Livingston Parish Library system.
The Suburban Reviewers have reinstated their Library Committee and plan to closely watch the Library Board of Control, library funding and staffing, according to the release.
