Stumbo plans announcement, reports $67K in campaign for attorney general

South Carolina’s 8th Judicial Circuit Solicitor, who raised more than $67,000 in a campaign for attorney general and has launched a campaign website, plans to make a “big announcement” in Laurens on Sept. 22.
David Stumbo’s campaign said on July 23, that the candidate raised more than $67,000 in a 24-hour period as he explores a run for attorney general. Stumbo has filed his initial campaign disclosure report with the South Carolina State Ethics Commission.
He’s campaigning to replace attorney general Alan Wilson who is running for governor.
“I have been amazed and humbled by the outpouring of support from friends, law enforcement, victims’ advocates and fellow South Carolinians who believe we need principled, conservative leadership in the Attorney General’s office,” Stumbo said in the July 23 press release.
Stumbo was first elected 8th Judicial Circuit solicitor, which covers Laurens, Newberry, Greenwood and Abbeville counties in November 2012.
According to his campaign website, the solicitor is a “lifelong conservative” who will continue his record of servant leadership by protecting crime victims, putting criminals behind bars, and defending the constitution.
“South Carolina is growing fast, but so are the threats to public safety and the values we hold dear,” Stumbo stated in the July press release. “We need a proven criminal prosecutor — one with the record and unwavering commitment to fight for families, defend the Constitution, and keep the radical left from undermining the rule of law.”
