Students told to explore opportunities at seminar organised by The Hindu FIC and SRM-A.P.

“The path to an exciting career begins with your decision,” Jayaseelan Murugaiyan, Associate Dean, Department of Biological Sciences at SRM University-A.P., told the students of SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala on Monday (September 22, 2025).

Addressing the students at a session titled ‘Careers in Management and Sciences’, organised by The Hindu FIC and SRM-A.P. in collaboration with SDM Siddhartha Mahila Kalasala in Vijayawada on Monday, Mr. Murugaiyan exhorted them to explore the boundless opportunities in biology and related fields.

Remembering pioneers like Thomas Edison, Subhash Mukherjee, and T.C. Anand Kumar, he emphasised on how asking simple questions can ignite ground-breaking discoveries and stressed on the need for interdisciplinary research to advance diagnostics and treatments.

He also highlighted the opportunities under the National Educational Policy-2020 and described how the students can apply for Ph.D. directly after a B.Sc. or B.Tech. course at SRM-A.P. in fields such as bioengineering, bioinformatics, and integrative biology.

Later, A.V.S. Kamesh, professor at Paari School of Business, SRM University–A.P., provided the students an insightful introduction to the vast field of business studies, its scope, and the wide spectrum of career opportunities across management domains.

Mr. Kamesh said that business is an organised effort to produce, sell, or exchange goods and services for profit, while creating value for customers, stakeholders, and society. He outlined the interdisciplinary nature of business studies, focusing on six core areas of “Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management (HRM), Marketing Management, Financial Management, Operations Management, Business Analytics, Strategy and Governance”.

He said business studies open diverse career avenues and requires students to cultivate interdisciplinary skills, analytical thinking, and adaptability to thrive in a dynamic business environment.

The session was conducted by college principal V.V.S. Kumar and others. Students of various programmes took part in the event.
