Information reaching this publication indicates Tension erupted at Luwerezi Community Day Secondary School in Mzimba last night when a group of students went on a rampage, setting fire to property in their hostels after a dispute with school authorities over cell phones. Jenda Police spokesperson Macfarlen Mseteka confirmed the incident, explaining that the unrest began after school officials confiscated phones that students had been keeping in their hostels in violation of school rules. “Some students were angered by the decision and started destroying property. We have since arrested a number of them for questioning,” said Mseteka. Northern Region Education Division Manager, Dellings Kayira, also confirmed the development, noting that the situation was quickly contained and that the damage was minimal. Kayira emphasized that keeping cell phones in boarding schools is against education regulations and urged students to adhere to the established rules.
