Dianne Buswell has certainly danced her way into the hearts of Strictly Come Dancing fans since her first twirl on the BBC One show in 2017. She’s been paired with a celeb every series since her debut, making it to the final twice before finally clinching the coveted Glitterball trophy in 2024 with comedian Chris McCausland. One of her most memorable partnerships was in 2018 when she was teamed up with YouTube star Joe Sugg. Their chemistry sizzled off the dance floor too and after the series wrapped, Dianne and Joe confirmed their love story. But while we’re familiar with Strictly’s Dianne, what about her beau Joe Sugg? Let’s delve in… Joe Sugg is a YouTube sensation, social media influencer and telly star. He hails from Lacock, Wiltshire, where he spent his childhood with his family, reports Wales Online . The 34 year old attended The Corsham School in Corsham before taking up an apprenticeship as a roof thatcher post A-levels. His online career kicked off with the launch of his YouTube channel, ThatcherJoe, in December 2011. Joe is the younger sibling of Zoe Sugg. The 35-year-old is a social media queen, author and businesswoman, who kickstarted her career on YouTube under her popular online alias, Zoella. Zoe started her YouTube journey in 2009 and has since racked up over 10 million subscribers. Her Instagram account also boasts a whopping 9.1 million followers. She’s become a well-loved internet sensation, sharing snippets of her life on YouTube and Instagram. Zoe’s content is a mix of fashion, beauty, lifestyle and parenting tips. She’s penned three fiction books, kicking off with Girl Online in 2014, and a non-fiction book, Cordially Invited. Zoe’s also won fans over by documenting her long-term romance with fellow vlogger Alfie Deyes. The pair started dating in 2012 and went public with their relationship in a 2013 blog post. The couple welcomed their first daughter in 2021, followed by a second bundle of joy in 2023. The engaged pair and their daughters are happily settled in Brighton. Joe’s career took off in 2011 when he launched his YouTube channel, which amassed two million subscribers just two years later. This success led to the creation of his vlogging channel, ThatcherJoeVlogs, and a gaming channel, ThatcherJoeGames. Joe’s YouTube stardom has opened up a world of opportunities. He’s lent his voice to several roles over the years, including Gus in the 2019 film Wonder Park and A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon. He was part of the YouTube Boyband and featured on the 2014 single Do They Know It’s Christmas ? as part of the Band Aid 30 charity group. He released his debut solo single in 2020, followed by another hit in 2021. Joe made his mark in the West End production of Waitress as Ogie Anhorn in 2019 and debuted on television in the fourth series of BBC One’s The Syndicate in 2020. He has also worked with others on graphic novels and in 2022, he published a book titled Grow, a blend of memoir and guide to reconnecting with nature. In addition, Joe is the co-founder of management company Margravine, now known as MVE, which nurtures emerging digital talent. He and mate Caspar Lee established the company in 2018. Joe is also the founder of production company Final Straw Productions, which announced a collaboration with BBC Studios in 2022. In 2018, Joe made history as the first social media star to feature on BBC One’s Strictly Come Dancing. He partnered with Dianne Buswell for the competition, and they reached the final. Joe and Dianne secured second place and participated in the Strictly Live Tour, where they set a record by winning 25 shows consecutively, eventually becoming the overall tour winners with 28 out of 29 victories. Joe and Dianne also competed in the 2019 Strictly Christmas Special. Joe hosted the official podcast of the BBC show from 2019 until 2023. Joe and Dianne’s partnership on Strictly evolved into a romantic relationship. They started dating in 2018 and confirmed they’d moved in together the following year. The couple have become incredibly popular among Strictly fans, who keep up with Dianne and Joe’s relationship through their social media updates. The couple purchased their first shared home in 2021, chronicling the experience online. In September 2025, Dianne and Joe took to social media with a video announcing they’re expecting their first bundle of joy together. The pair are set to welcome a baby boy into the world next year.
