Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden shares 'exciting' update after second mastectomy

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden shared an "exciting" update after her second mastectomy on Monday (November 10). The 35-year-old Welsh professional dancer was notably diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2023 after finding a lump in her breast while on her honeymoon. She was forced to miss Strictly that year, and bravely documented her health journey, while she was supported from fans and co-stars alike. A few months later, Amy announced that there was "no evidence of disease". However, last week, the star revealed that she was having another mastectomy after consulting with her medical team. After undergoing surgery last week, Amy shared a positive update with her Instagram followers today. "Hello everyone, happy Monday. Just want to say a massive thank you for all the messages over the weekend. I am recovering really, really well," she said on her Story. "I'm really excited because I'm about to get my drain taken out. Honestly, that's gonna make me feel so much better. It's connected here, you've got to wear compression bras. I literally came round from surgery with my compression bra on. "It's quite uncomfortable, so I'm so excited and I know I'm gonna recover even faster when the drain is out. But I'm doing really, really well. Thank you for all your lovely messages, they really, really mean a lot." Speaking about this weekend's Strictly, Amy added: "Strictly was a fabulous weekend, wasn't it? Didn't want to see anyone leave. "Thanks for all the lovely messages about seeing me in the Remembrance number. This was pre-recorded earlier in the year. A beautiful, beautiful number which was an honour to be a part of. "It's Monday, it's a new week and I'm wishing everyone positivity and Welsh love!" In another Story, Amy thanked her family and friends for sending her flowers, adding: "[They've] cheered me up so much... Certainly put a smile on my face. I'm feeling really good." In the background, Amy's mum Gillian confirmed that she couldn't believe how well her daughter has recovered, concluding: "You've done marvellous."
