Strictly's Amy Dowden shares update from hospital bed after mastectomy surgery

Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden has provided a health update whilst recuperating in her hospital bed. The 35-year-old Welsh professional dancer revealed this week that she's preparing for a second mastectomy after her 2023 breast cancer diagnosis. She's been compelled to withdraw from Strictly due to her surgery but maintains a positive outlook. Amy posted on Instagram on Friday (November 7) to express gratitude for the overwhelming fan support following her recent health announcement and revealed her intentions to "dance my way through 2026". Following her operation, the BBC favourite shared a photograph from her hospital bed after supporters inundated her comments with encouraging messages, reports Wales Online . The star posted a makeup-free selfie wearing a brown top, giving a thumbs up as she captured the moment from her hospital room. She penned: "Feeling so much better this morning . Again can't THANK YOU all enough for the well wishes, love and beautiful messages I've received. Not gone unnoticed and so appreciated. Welsh love to you all, always." The day before (Thursday, November 6), Amy posted another hospital photograph alongside her husband, family and friends. They assembled around her bedside as she posed in her hospital gown and provided fans with an update. She wrote: "Thank you for all the messages and love. Sorry I've not replied to anyone, (only just looked at my phone). surgery went well and lots of sleep and resting up. "Hubby and Family have been looking after me and the besties have turned up with the goods and nothing is stopping us from watching The Traitors...keeping the tradition going." Supporters poured into the comments section with heartfelt messages, including The Traitors and Strictly presenter Claudia Winkleman, who posted a series of heart emojis. Amy revealed details about her operation this month, whilst informing people she was undergoing a second mastectomy. In a clip posted to her story, she explained: "Hello everyone, I just wanted to come on and just say a massive thank you for the love and support, all the messages, comments I've received today. "It's been so overwhelming, and so so kind of you all. I'm going into this really fit, really strong, really positive. "I'm going to do all I can to get back with my Strictly family as soon as I can and I'm going to make sure I dance my way through 2026." Amy initially received a stage three breast cancer diagnosis in May 2023 and underwent her first mastectomy. Nevertheless, she was subsequently informed she had developed another form of cancer, which had been discovered elsewhere in her body. In August 2024, medics expressed concerns regarding irregularities in her breast during a routine examination, though she was fortunately given the all clear.
