A cat owner has gone viral after sharing the story of how a stray orange kitty saw their felines living the best life through the window and one day decided to join the family. The heartwarming Reddit post shared on Thursday under the username u/OkEmu52 shows pictures of the orange kitty finally living his best life as an indoor cat with the poster and the other cats after stalking them from the window for a while. “Orange boy saw my cats in the window and decided to upgrade his living situation,” the caption reads. The post explains that only this summer they had trapped, neutered and released him to help curb the local stray cat population, but at that time, he didn’t feel ready and wasn’t social enough to become an indoor cat. “After a few months of staring longingly inside the house (and a lot of Churus) he decided maybe humans aren't so bad”, they said. Also known as TNR, the Trap-Neuter-Return system is considered by experts the most humane and effective method for managing feral and stray cats and controlling their population. Theses felines are usually trapped by volunteers and brought to the veterinarian to be spayed or neutered. They are also treated for fleas and worms and eartipped, to show new volunteers that they have already been taken care of. After the surgery, they are taken care of by the clinics, until they recover and are then released back into their original environment, where volunteers known as “site carers” often provide regular food and shelter. Neutering and spaying feral and stray cats help keep control their population, reduces fighting, yowling, territorial behaviors and other unwanted behaviors due to mating. The video quickly went viral on social media and it has so far received over 19,000 upvotes and 146 comments on the platform. One user, Kaitie1, said: “I can’t get over how sad he looked outside vs how happy his face is inside. Love really does wonders.” AriesProductions wrote: “He obviously had his turn with the one shared brain cell and used it wisely. Congratulations to you both.” Another user, Fantastic_Example_20, commented: “I took in a neighborhood gray cat in the winter in a snowstorm and he has been a great cat ever since.” Newsweek reached out to u/OkEmu52 for comment via Reddit.
