Stranger Things creators have revealed their thoughts when planning the highly anticipated final moments in the last episode of the series that was planned nearly a decade ago. At Italy’s Lucca Comics and Games Festival, Matt and Ross Duffer spoke with the crowd about the upcoming final season of Netflix’s Stranger Things. Ross spoke about the planning of the finale and stated, "Luckily, it was about six or seven years ago that we knew at least what the final scene is. We always knew what the last 40 minutes were going to be." Matt continued by adding: "You are having to let go in a way and say goodbye. So we weren’t thinking about that too much when we were writing that final episode. But once we read it through with [the actors], we realized how much it reflected our own experience. And hopefully that emotion that we felt writing it — and our actors felt performing it — is going to come through to the audience." Stranger Things initially released on the streaming platform in 2016 and had critical acclaim due to its homage to the 80s, using iconic music, iconography, and including legendary 80s actors like Winona Ryder. It follows a mysterious girl showing up in a small town in Indiana named Hawkins, and they uncover secret science experiments and an ominous danger threatening to destroy their families. During the panel, some of the cast reflected on their time throughout the show and how their characters have evolved with each passing season. Finn Wolfhard, known for his role as Mike Wheeler, expressed how he felt about being only 13 years old when joining the project. He states that the show "does sort of mirror our own lives … obviously, for us, we weren’t like fighting inter-dimensional monsters or anything. But we did have an unorthodox sort of childhood that we went through being with each other." Wolfhard continues and adds that his character is stepping into more of a "leadership" role in the final season. Netflix has also released the final poster for season 5, which includes the main cast being overlooked by Vecna (played by Jamie Campbell Bower). There is great speculation regarding the trailer, which was released a couple of days ago and is said to feature a scene from every episode in season 5 throughout. Will Byers (played by Noah Schnapp) is seen being taken once again by Vecna as the evil villain states it will be for "one last time". A lot of the main characters are seen in states of disarray, including Eleven (played by Millie Bobby Brown), who is expected to have a final face-off with her greatest foe, Vecna. Stranger Things has an overall rating of 92% on Rotten Tomatoes.
