The music scene has witnessed a significant shift in recent years, with the role of hype men gaining prominence on big stages.
According to OgeeTheMC, longtime hype man for Dancehall heavyweight Stonebwoy, his boss is the pioneer behind this movement.
Speaking in an interview OgeeTheMC dared anyone to challenge his claim, citing Stonebwoy’s consistent use of hype men on Ghana’s major stages as evidence.
The Birth of a Movement
OgeeTheMC’s journey with Stonebwoy began in 2012, when they met at an event and struck up an acquaintance.
Two years later, he became part of Stonebwoy’s team and eventually his hype man. Before then, Ogee had built a reputation as a master of ceremonies, hosting school events, community shows, and parties.
His natural charisma and crowd-control skills made him a perfect fit for the role.
Breaking Down Barriers
When Ogee started, many dismissed the hype man role as unnecessary, laughing off his ambitions.
However, Stonebwoy saw the potential early and gave him a platform, changing everything.
Today, the role of hype men has become an integral part of Ghana’s performance culture, with artists recognizing their value in sustaining energy and keeping performances lively.
A Lasting Legacy
For Ogee, his story is not just about personal vindication but also about loyalty to Stonebwoy, who believed in him. Over a decade later, their bond remains unbroken.
“I will always applaud Stonebwoy for setting the pace for others to follow,” Ogee said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity, and nothing can destroy the bond we’ve built.”
Stonebwoy, born Livingstone Etse Satekla, has been a driving force in Ghana’s music industry, blending African rhythms with global sounds. With a career spanning over a decade, he has released several hit albums, including “Grade 1” (2012), “Necessary Evil” (2014), and “Anloga Junction” (2020).
His latest project, “The Torcher EP,” showcases his consistency, creativity, and cultural impact.
Awards And Recognition
Stonebwoy has received numerous awards and nominations, including the Best International Act: Africa category at the 2015 BET Awards and Artist of the Year at the 2015 Ghana Music Awards.
He has also been honored at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA) and the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA).
