The Royal Nawaab at Stockport's iconic Pyramid will host its first Christmas light switch-on event, it has been confirmed. The hugely popular restaurant opened in the landmark - long-empty - building last year. The 1,500-capacity restaurant and banqueting hall is spread across three levels and has been praised by the likes of food critic Jay Rayner . Marking the start of the festive period for the venue, owners have said the Christmas event will take place between 6pm and 7:30pm on Friday, 14 November, and will feature live entertainment, community performances, and the grand illumination of the Pyramid. It is free to attend and those heading down can expect a live DJ, Christmas food vendors serving up desserts, warm drinks and more, and even a appearance from Father Christmas. If wanting to eat at the restaurant, bookings will need to be made. Another added: "Well done Nawaabs. This will bring loads of Joy and happiness for a lot of people. Looking forward." It is the first event in the festive calendar and will be followed up by their Royálé Charity Gala on Thursday, 27 November. The venue's inaugural black-tie fundraising dinner is aiming to raise over £50,000 for Stockport NHS Charity the official charity of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust, which supports Stepping Hill Hospital and local community NHS services. The venue is pledging 100% of ticket sales to the charity, one close to the heart of founder, Mahboob Hussain. “My family has had incredible care at Stepping Hill Hospital, including the births of all my Grandchildren. It is a vital part of our community, and we are delighted to host this evening to be able to celebrate and give something back," commented Mahboob Hussain. The evening starts at 6:30pm on Thursday, 27 November and tables are on sale now priced at £1500 for a table of ten. Mahboob Hussain, who also ran the Royal Nawaab venue in Levenshulme between 2002 and 2022, launched the new venue at Stockport Pyramid earlier this year, attracting 10,000 visitors in its first two weeks alone. Over the summer, the £15m venue was also recognised in a prestigious list celebrating the very best Asian restaurants in the UK alongside a number of other Greater Manchester spaces. In September it was also confirmed that the restaurant will be open in Christmas Day , serving a full festive dinner alongside its varied selection of than 100 buffet dishes. It will be open from 1pm to 11pm on the day itself, and alongside the usual selection of Indian and Pakistani buffet dishes, diners will also be able to enjoy a full traditional Christmas dinner spread - complete with turkey and all the trimmings. There will also be a whole roasted lamb, which will be prepared by Royal Nawaab owner Mr Mahboob. Bookings for Christmas Day are now open, with the menu priced at £49.99, excluding drinks, for adults. The Christmas Day menu is available for £24.99, excluding drinks, for children aged between five and 11, whilst under-5’s can eat free. The Royal Nawaab Christmas Light Switch-On takes place on Friday, 14 November with doors open at 5:45pm. Spots can be reserved via Eventbrite and are free.
