Steven Pressley is looking for Dundee ‘s first Premiership win to be the springboard for their season The Dark Blues dramatically scored a late winner in a five goal thriller against Livingston , which took them off the bottom and into the top six. Pressley knows that first league triumph was a major hurdle that has been overcome and hopes can be the catalyst for their domestic campaign. “(A win). The rest helps the narrative,” the delighted boss claimed. “We now have one defeat in the last five games. “But if we don’t win at the weekend, the narrative can be spun that we haven’t won in five games. “So, it changes everything, the outlook, the feeling around the club. “The result first and foremost was the most important thing at the weekend. “And I think the players’ reaction, their behaviour during and after the game, demonstrated that there’s a really good spirit and unity and togetherness within the group. “Even the subs who didn’t get on played their part in terms of creating that unity and togetherness at the weekend. “The cultural elements are really important to me and I think they’re really important to the success of any team. “So that was also really pleasing.” It may have been a good day for Pressley’s team but he hasn’t got carried away and acknowledged they have to learn from it. Dundee had gone two ahead before they were pegged back and had win it through Callum Jones’s 97th minute penalty. Pressley stated: “There was a lot of good in the game. But equally, I’ll be honest, there was a lot of learning in the game. “In certain games we need to be a wee bit more offensive and brave. And in other games, we’re going to have to be pragmatic. “It’s where we are just now in terms of the make-up of the squad. “And when we are a little bit more offensive, we leave ourselves a little bit more vulnerable defensively. “I think we’ve seen that at the weekend.” Pressley also knows there were mitigating circumstances in their drop off with a number of injuries. He admitted: “Obviously, the rhythm of the game was affected by some of the substitutions. “Some of them were in forced changes. Simon (Murray) indicated to me he needed to come off -he had cramp in his hamstring. “Fin (Robertson) and Cam (Congreve) both said to me they needed to come off because they’re cramping in their calves. “I think that affected the rhythm. “But equally, I think that part of that is that we need to go through the struggles that we experienced to get better. “Because there’s an anxiousness. “You’ve got to understand that the team has only won one game at home prior to the weekend in the calendar year. “When you’re leading 2-0, you naturally also defend deeper and go back on the game and are less brave in some of the things that we work towards. “Although you think you’re doing the right thing, it actually often has an adverse effect. “We didn’t defend with that same bravery in the last 20 minutes. “I think part of that was we were anxious, we wanted to protect our lead and we wanted to win the game. “That aspect of it had an effect on our decision making and some of the principles in the final 20 minutes.”
