The Golden State Warriors enter a crucial season ahead of them.

The Warriors will do all they can to get back into title contention for the 2025-26 season, and they will do so with their head coach, Steve Kerr, as he enters the final year of his contract.

Kerr will enter the final year of his two-year, $35 million extension that he signed in February of the 2023-24 season. The 60-year-old head coach will enter his 12th overall season in the Bay Area.

There are questions over Kerr’s future as the new season approaches, and he addressed the uncertainty head-on on Tuesday.

“I’m very comfortable going into the season with a year left,” Kerr said. “I’m so aligned with [general manager] Mike [Dunleavy] and [owner] Joe [Lacob]. We talked about this — there’s no reason for discussion or concern. This is kind of a point in our relationship where let’s just see how it is at the end of the year.”

Kerr has established himself as a pillar in Golden State and certainly a future Hall of Famer. He has led the franchise to four titles, including three in the span of four seasons, with arguably the greatest NBA team ever.

Although there are questions about his future, it is clear that Kerr loves his work.

“I love my job,” Kerr said. “I love what I’m doing every day. I can’t wait to get to the building. Hopefully I’m here for another few years. But I think it makes sense for the organization and for me to see where this thing is at the end of the year — where they are and where I am. Hopefully that means we run it back, we keep going with this group, that’d be awesome. But I like the fact we can do it how we want it.”

Kerr’s hiring back in 2014 raised a lot of eyebrows, as he had never been a head coach before. He was offered contracts by the Warriors and New York Knicks and wisely chose Golden State.

Eleven years later, and he is still going strong. Heading into year 12, Kerr will look to bring the title under his belt, led by his three stars in Jimmy Butler, Stephen Curry and Draymond Green.

The Warriors have veteran and championship leadership on their side, led by Kerr.
