Stephen Robinson tips St Mirren hero Mikael Mandron for a Scotland call-up

Stephen Robinson hailed magic Mikael Mandron for blasting St Mirren into the Premier Sports Cup Final - then backed the Frenchman for a SCOTLAND call up. The big striker fired a double and provided two assists as the Buddies bulldozed Motherwell 4-1 at Hampden. It sets up a final showdown with either Celtic or Rangers on December 14 - and Robbo insists his side will fear nobody if they can repeat Saturday's form. Before then the Saints boss reckons Mandron - who qualifies for Scotland through his Aberdeen-born granny - wouldn’t look out of place at the national stadium in a navy blue shirt. Steve Clarke names his squad for the vital World Cup qualifying double header against Greece and Denmark on Monday. And asked if he should be considered, Robinson said: “Mika did really, really well. When he plays well, we play well. He gives us a platform. He's a leader on and off the pitch. “Listen, Steve knows his players better than me. I'm a big fan of the national team as well. “My wife's taught me Flower of Scotland now. So I have to sing it every game. “But listen, I know all about Mika. He's a very, very talented boy. He's scoring goals. “He leads the line very well. So certainly, why not? “There's lots of players that I've worked with that have got caps. I don't think we've had many boys that have been capped at St Mirren before we came in. “So that's credit to the staff and the recruitment now. “And Mika, certainly, he wouldn't look out of place. With his talent, he certainly wouldn't look out of place at the national level.” Saints marched into next month’s final - their first since winning the trophy in 2013 - with a powerhouse performance to dismantle the Steelmen. Dan Nlundulu netted a stunning second goal and Richard King added a third in between Mandron’s double. Robinson - who led Well to two cup finals seven years ago - reckons his St Mirren side will fear nobody in next month’s showpiece. And he told his stars they have the chance to become legends.. He said: “We want to make an occasion out of the final. So we came here and we wanted to be ruthless. We were. The feeling amongst the fans, they'll remember days like this forever. “There's a group of players and staff to give them European experience, top-six experience, which a generation hadn't seen. “So I've said to the players, go and put yourselves down in history. “You've got an opportunity now to be remembered at St Mirren for the rest of your lives. “And that's how big the occasion is to a club of our size.” Robinson reckons his players have rammed the critics’ words back down their throats after being accused of being physical, long ball merchants. And he insists a final showdown with either side of the Old Firm will hold no fear for his troops. He said: “A lot of people motivated us with things that were said, unfairly, unjustified, in my opinion. “And we used that as our motivation to show what a good side we are. “You've got to try and score more goals than the opposition. You're allowed to play players that are over six feet tall. My six-foot players aren't very physical, to be fair to them. I need more from them. “What I want to do is show how good they are. Show how good the players were. “I think we play an exciting brand of football. Create a lot of chances. We deliver a lot of balls. “We make teams defend. We steal a lot of ideas off Bournemouth and Brentford to increase your xG. We put long throws into the box. “We put free kicks into the box. Outwith that, we play some really good football. We move the ball really well at times as well. It's a team I'm proud of, a performance I'm proud of and we have to replicate that. “If we play like that against anybody, we can beat anybody on our day. We've got no fear.”
