Stephen Colbert Joins Jennifer Aniston For A Surprise Audition Of The Morning Show

Stephen Colbert is known as a witty late night host, but not many know that he once tried his luck in acting too. Recently, he revealed a fun story about how he auditioned for the iconic TV show Friends years ago but didn’t get the part. This memory came up when Colbert sat with Jennifer Aniston during an episode of The Late Show. Their chat turned into something unexpected as the two ended up doing an audition together.
The role was for a weatherman on Aniston’s Apple TV series The Morning Show. It all started when Jennifer spoke about the fifth season of the show and Colbert jokingly asked if they might need more actors. To his surprise, Jennifer was ready to add him in the cast, as she bought a script and the pair performed a short scene together.
Is Stephen Colbert Joining The Morning Show?
Jennifer Aniston said, “We are hoping for a fifth season. In the hopes we’re doing some preliminary casting. He was an actor and a really brilliant one.” To this, Stephen Colbert replied, “I auditioned for Friends.”
The Morning Show actress came up with a proposal for the host and said, “Now that I know that you didn’t get it, I’m questioning my moment. But anyway, so I just thought, why not? You’re going to be free next year, starting June. So, I always thought maybe you could audition for season five of the morning show. Wouldn’t you? Isn’t that sort of perfect?”
Instant Casting Idea
During their conversation, Stephen Colbert offered to fly out for the audition. Jennifer Aniston quickly stopped him and explained that he doesn’t need to travel. She had already brought a scene with her and suggested they could record it right there since cameras were rolling. She set up a quick scenario for the audition and asked Colbert to play a character named Steven. The scene was set at a fictional studio, with a middle aged man entering, described as a bit like Steve Carell but slightly more attractive.

In the intriguing scene, Jennifer Aniston, playing her character Alex Levy, introduced Stephen Colbert’s role as the new weatherman. The scene continued with Aniston joking about the previous weatherman, who had a wild incident in space and Colbert responded with a clever line about the weather that day. Aniston then asked why his character will switch from late night weather to a morning show. Colbert played along, saying his character has been the number one late night weatherman until the show was cancelled.
In the first two seasons of The Morning Show, Jennifer Aniston played the lead role, while Steve Carell appeared as Mitch Kessler, the show’s morning news anchor.
