Following the Pittsburgh Steelers’ 23-9 Week 6 win over the Cleveland Browns, the team improved to 4-1 on the young season. To begin the 2025 campaign, the Steelers have legitimately looked the part of a potential Super Bowl contender.
Of course, starting the season with a 4-1 record doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of a season. They still have a long way to go before even ensuring themselves of making the playoffs. However, the early returns have been great for the work the franchise put in during the offseason.
With the winning starting off early this season, could Pittsburgh get even more aggressive in its pursuit of a championship? As the trade deadline continues to draw closer, the Steelers have a few different targets they could consider.

Keeping that in mind, one particular trade target has been suggested for Pittsburgh.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports has suggested a trade idea that would see the Steelers partner up with the Philadelphia Eagles to acquire another star wide receiver. That wide receiver is none other than A.J. Brown, who has come under fire for seemingly being disinterested in playing for the Eagles.
In his trade suggestion, Benjamin would have Brown being shipped to Pittsburgh in exchange for tight end Pat Freiermuth, linebacker Alex Highsmith, and a 2026 third-round pick.
“Why on Earth would the Steelers deal for Brown when they already spent picks and big money to land Brown’s former college teammate, DK Metcalf, this offseason? Because they’re all in on winning with Aaron Rodgers this year, and their 4-1 start suggests they’ll remain aggressive in roster-building,” Benjamin wrote. “Freiermuth doesn’t have a major role in Steel City anymore, but he might offer both blocking and pass-catching depth as a potential Dallas Goedert successor. Highsmith, meanwhile, is often nicked up but a proven edge rusher (29 sacks, 56 quarterback hits since 2022) to help fill the Eagles’ blatant need there. Philadelphia might also send one of its own reserve pass-rushers, like Azeez Ojulari, back to Pittsburgh in this scenario.”
Brown would immediately form the best wide receiver duo alongside of DK Metcalf on paper. How the two would co-exist with each other would be the bigger question.

Aaron Rodgers is more than capable of feeding both star wideouts the football. He would be in quarterback heaven working with those two guys. Brown’s ability to make plays down the field and in the short game would complement Metcalf, who can do the exact same thing.
Both wide receivers would take an immense amount of pressure off of each other.
While it’s clearly an intriguing idea, it’s just an idea at this point in time. No reports have connected the Steelers and Philadelphia as legitimately talking about a trade. But, it’s something worth keeping an eye on that would make sense.
