Steelers Connected to $43 Million Free Agent WR for Playoff Push

The Pittsburgh Steelers had a wake-up call during "Sunday Night Football" in Week 10. Veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers struggled to find open receivers, finishing 16-of-31 passing for 161 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Pittsburgh has now lost three of its last four games and holds just a one-game lead in the AFC North over the ascending Baltimore Ravens. Pittsburgh should consider adding a veteran in free agency to bolster its playoff push. Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report suggested former Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tyler Boyd could be an option for the Steelers. "Tyler Boyd isn't the player he once was, but it's still surprising he hasn't found a home this season," Knox wrote. "An experienced, savvy route-runner, he should still have something to offer. In a bad Tennessee Titans offense last season, the 30-year-old wide receiver managed to tally 39 catches for 390 yards. "The Pitt product told Pittsburgh Sports Now's Austin Bechtold in June he'd "absolutely" be open to playing for the Pittsburgh Steelers while stressing his intention to play in 2025... The Steelers would make sense, as they could use a veteran receiver and didn't add one at the trade deadline." The Bengals selected Boyd in the second round of the 2016 draft. He signed a four-year, $43 million deal with Cincinnati in 2019. Boyd, 30, has appeared in 136 games and started in 85 games during his first nine seasons in the league. He's recorded 552 receptions for 6,390 yards and 31 touchdowns. Boyd would be an ideal receiver to play WR2 or WR3 for Pittsburgh. Sunday's game against the Chargers proved the Steelers need another receiver to free up D.K. Metcalf, the team's leading receiver. Tight end Pat Freiermuth is Pittsburgh's second leading receiver with 260 yards and three touchdowns. It'll be interesting to see if the Steelers start snooping around free agency to find help for Rodgers. Pittsburgh clearly needs a boost if it wants to hold on to the AFC North.
