The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is urging people to think about wearing face masks due to the rise in a number of bugs and viruses. Illnesses such as flu, Covid, the common cold, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which have many similar symptoms are currently spreading wildly. The UKHSA has now released its latest advice, which states: "Help stop infections from spreading with this checklist for you and your family." The health body has set out five essential measures for people to adopt in order to curb the transmission of infections. These measures include frequent handwashing, capturing coughs and sneezes with a tissue, remaining at home whilst feeling poorly, opening windows during indoor gatherings with others, and contemplating wearing a mask when venturing outside. The most recent government figures reveal a modest uptick in Covid cases during the week ending October 8, showing a 1.9% rise. Deaths linked to Covid have also experienced a notable jump, climbing nearly 15% week on week, from 87 to 100, in the week ending October 3. According to the most recent data available up to the week ending 30 September the number of patients admitted to healthcare settings with Covid increased from 1,894 to 2,077, marking a rise of 9.7%.
