STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Borough students are bringing fairy tales to life in the latest season of “Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest,” a popular family podcast with millions of downloads. The new episodes were produced at PS 9 on Targee Street, featuring the voices and perspectives of Staten Island kids. The podcast, hosted by bestselling author and Brooklyn parent Adam Gidwitz, retells classic fairy tales with a modern twist. “‘Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest’ turns car rides, cozy October evenings, and Halloween preparations into shared adventures,” said the podcast team. The show recently hosted a sold-out live taping in Brooklyn. The podcast was named Best Kids and Family Podcast at the 2025 Webby Awards, competing against hits like “Barbie” and “Dora the Explorer.” PS 9, also known as Naples Street Elementary School in Concord, was recognized in 2023 as a National Blue Ribbon School, one of just 22 New York schools to receive the honor from the U.S. Department of Education. For 2026, the school was ranked #15 in all NYC elementary schools. Children featured in the new episodes anticipate plot twists, crack jokes, and share their own takes on the stories. Episodes are rated on a scale of Grimm, Grimmer, or Grimmest, allowing families to choose their preferred level of spookiness. The season was produced in collaboration with Pinna, an award-winning audio streaming service for kids led by Staten Islander Molly Burton. Burton, a local mom active in the community through the PS 9 School Leadership Team and the Snug Harbor Cultural Center Board, said the partnership helps create content that engages children and families alike. “From mysteries and interactive game shows, to science and fantasy, Pinna activates kids’ imaginations and sparks conversation, creativity, and critical thinking,” Burton said. The new season of “Grimm, Grimmer, Grimmest” is now available on Pinna, just in time for Halloween. Gidwitz is known for his book "A Tale Dark & Grimm," serves as both host and narrator. The show is available exclusively on Pinna, a subscription-based audio platform for children.
