Staten Island DA’s domestic violence awareness walk returns this Saturday

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Richmond County District Attorney’s Office will host its fourth annual “A Mile in Their Shoes” walk and family festival this Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Willowbrook Park.
The free event, which has drawn hundreds of Staten Islanders in previous years, coincides with Domestic Violence Awareness Month and aims to shed light on an issue that accounts for roughly 50% of Staten Island’s felony assaults, according to the RCDA.
“Domestic violence impacts far too many lives on Staten Island, many of whom sadly suffer in silence,” District Attorney Michael E. McMahon said.
“While we support, serve, and work to secure justice in the courtroom for survivors and their families every single day, the month of October provides us with a unique opportunity to shine a light on this critical public safety issue which too often is shrouded in secrecy.”
The festival will feature free carousel rides, face painting, ice cream, zoo animals, a bouncy house, and health screenings for attendees.
Willowbrook Park is located at 1 Eton Place in Bulls Head. On-site registration begins at 11:30 a.m., and the first 100 participants to register will receive a free swag bag.
