The CIAC state semifinals in boys and girls soccer, field hockey and volleyball begin Tuesday and the state championships will take place Friday through Sunday at various points around the state. The state class swim championships will also take place this week, all at Cornerstone Aquatics in West Hartford, with Class S (6 p.m. start time) and L (1 p.m.) taking place Tuesday and Class LL (1 p.m.) and M (6 p.m.) on Wednesday. The State Open will take place at Yale on Sunday with warm-ups starting at 11 and the meet starting at 1 p.m. Eight soccer state championships will be held Saturday and Sunday at Trinity Health Stadium in Hartford, while three field hockey finals will be contested Saturday at Wethersfield High. Volleyball finals will be held at SMSA Friday night and East Haven on Saturday. In soccer, the Northwest Catholic girls will face Lewis Mills in a Class M semifinal Tuesday in New Britain in a rematch of the Class M championship game last year, which Lewis Mills won, 2-1. The East Catholic girls, who play Wednesday in the Class L semifinal against North Haven, are trying to get back to the state championship for the first time since 2022, when their current seniors were freshmen and helped win the Class S title. The Tolland boys, who will play Plainville Wednesday at Rockville High in the Class M semifinal, are looking for a second straight title. The Shoreline Conference has three boys teams in the Class S semifinals – Cromwell, Morgan and Haddam-Killingworth. The Hall boys, who last won a title in 2023, will face Staples in a Class LL semifinal Tuesday, while another CCC team, South Windsor, goes up against Greenwich in the other LL semi on Tuesday. In volleyball, Farmington, last year’s Class L champion, takes on Glastonbury in the Class LL semifinal Wednesday while Coventry and RHAM, winners of multiple state championships, are vying for the Class S and Class M titles, respectively. In field hockey, Granby will face last year’s Class S champion Shepaug Valley on Tuesday in the Class S semifinal. Granby hasn’t won a title since 2019.
