CHESTERFIELD — State Police returned to Chesterfield on Monday to renew the search for a town resident last seen in June, town and state officials said. Robert Clay, 78, was last seen in the area of Glebe Road on the morning of June 24. Authorities said he had dementia. He went missing at the start of a heat wave in the region, which complicated search efforts. For at least two weeks, N.H. Fish and Game and other law enforcement officers, as well as volunteers, scoured the area with line searches, K9s, drones and helicopters. That search came up empty, and Fish and Game officials said they believed Clay was dead. They scaled back the search and asked the public to check their sheds and outbuildings and to call law enforcement if they found anything. On Monday, State Police returned to the area with a helicopter to conduct another aerial search in Chesterfield and Westmoreland now that the foliage has thinned out, officials said. Authorities have also asked hunters to be on the lookout as they head into the woods this fall. Anyone who sees something that may be related to the case can contact N.H. Fish and Game Region 4 at 603-352-9669, State Police Troop C at 603-358-3333 or Chesterfield police at 603-363-4233.
