Andy Burnham , the Greater Manchester Mayor who is widely seen as a potential rival to UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer , used an interview with the magazine of the political left to argue Britain needs more radical policies.
The state should retake public control of all essential services from housing to transport, Burnham said in the New Statesman interview published Wednesday, just days before the governing Labour Party’s annual conference. “When you’ve lost control of housing, energy, water, rail, buses, you’ve lost control of the basics of life, but you’ve also then lost control of costs and public spending,” he said.
