Stafford hospice extension plans revealed - find out more

A planning application has been submitted to Stafford Borough Council, seeking permission for demolition of an existing rear extension at the Weston Road site to make way for the new extension.

A design and access statement submitted as part of the application said: “The proposed single-storey extension will be located on the site of the existing two-bed ward, which will be demolished to make way for the new development. The extension will provide five new, larger single bedrooms, each with a private en-suite, designed to enhance comfort, privacy, and dignity for patients.

“The extension will support the hospice’s commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred palliative care. These additional rooms will allow for more flexible accommodation, improve infection control, and create a more peaceful, home-like environment for patients and their families during a critical time.

“The extension connects seamlessly with the existing hospice layout, preserving the flow and functionality of adjacent spaces. All other existing rooms and areas within the hospice will remain unchanged, continuing to support the delivery of holistic palliative care in a calm and welcoming environment.”

A separate application has also come forward to create nine extra car park spaces at the rear of the hospice site. They are intended to provide additional parking for hospice staff, volunteers and essential visitors.
