St. George’s Shares November Newsletter

St. George’s Shares November Newsletter The Corporation of St. George’s has shared its November newsletter, featuring details on the return of the “Lighting of the Town” celebration, community initiatives, historic site spotlights, and upcoming festive events throughout the holiday season. Mayor Quinell Francis stated, “The Corporation of St. George’s welcomes all of Bermuda, from the tiniest tot to the most youthful grandparents, to embrace the holiday season in the Town of St. George, where joy, exploration, and peace await throughout this special time of year. We are delighted to share highlights from our November newsletter as we celebrate a momentous year and look forward to wonderful community celebrations ahead. A spokesperson said, “After seven years, our beloved ‘Lighting of the Town’ celebration returns on Saturday, November 29th from 6:30-9:30 PM in King’s Square. This cherished event holds special significance as the Town of St. George commemorates its 25th anniversary as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. “Supported by UNESCO Grants, the evening will feature performances, entertainment by the Vibe Tribe Gombeys, and the official lighting ceremony with His Excellency Mr. Andrew Murdoch, CMG, Governor of Bermuda. Guests can enjoy a complimentary egg nog donated by Dunkley’s. “This month, we invite everyone to ‘look up’ – both literally and figuratively. As we prepare our historic town for the holidays, we encourage residents and visitors to discover the unique architectural details that make St. George’s so special, from our distinctive limestone roofs to the rare curved rooflines that reward those who take a moment to appreciate what’s above. Looking up reminds us to seek inspiration, discover beauty, and anticipate the joy that the coming season brings. “We’re proud to have joined the Centre Against Abuse and the Women’s Resource Centre in observing Purple Thursday, lighting our building to raise awareness about domestic abuse. Together with communities across Bermuda, we stand committed to breaking the silence and supporting those who need help. “Our spotlights include UNESCO’s Alexandra Battery, a historic fortification originally constructed in the 1860s and renamed in 1876 after Princess Alexandra. This crucial defense site is also home to the beach where Sir George Somers and survivors built the Patience and Deliverance in 1610, inspiring Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Visitors can explore this free site at 10-17 Barry Road, St. George’s. And in business, the spotlight shines on Boho Couture, who brings style and panache to the town square. “Our festive season continues with the BNT Christmas Walkabout on Friday, December 5th from 6-9 PM, Santa Comes to Town on Saturday, December 13th from 6-10 PM in King’s Square, and our New Year’s Eve Celebration on Wednesday, December 31st from 7 PM-1 AM in King’s Square. “Our next General Meeting will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 6 PM in the Towne Hall, moved back one week due to Thanksgiving. We welcome all residents to attend, hear updates on ongoing projects, and participate in our public Q&A session. “The full November newsletter is available through the Corporation of St. George’s official channels. “Read the newsletter here and sign up here.” Category: All
