St. Tammany Council member Kathy Seiden announces Senate bid

First-term St. Tammany Parish Council member Kathy Seiden announced Wednesday she is running for U.S. Senate, joining a field of several candidates who hope to knock incumbent Sen. Bill Cassidy out of the race in a closed party primary set for April.
“I’m running because Washington has lost touch with the real challenges families face every single day,” Seiden said in a statement announcing her candidacy.
“As a mother of four, I’ve lived those struggles. We need a fighter who stands unapologetically or faith, family, and the American way of life.”
Seiden grew up in Brusly and is a graduate of LSU, according to a news release.
As part of the campaign launch, Seiden shared a six-minute video video titled “The Outsider” that is meant to be the first in a series that “captures her outsider journey.”
Along with Cassidy, major Republican competitors in the race include state Sen. Blake Miguez, R-New Iberia, state Treasurer John Fleming and Public Service Commissioner Eric Skrmetta.
Sammy Wyatt, chief compliance and investigation officer at LSU Health Shreveport, is also running.
U.S. Rep. Julia Letlow, R-Start, and state Rep. Julie Emerson, R-Carencro, are also considering getting into the race.
