SSNIT to launch virtual branches for seamless nationwide service

The Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) has announced plans to introduce virtual branch operations to enhance nationwide service delivery and make access to pensions more convenient for contributors across Ghana. The initiative, according to SSNIT, forms part of efforts to leverage technology to bring its services closer to the people while ensuring efficiency and transparency in the scheme’s operations. Speaking at a media engagement in Kumasi, the General Manager in charge of Operations, Philip Kofi Senya, said the Trust is making significant strides in expanding its contributor base and improving service delivery. He revealed that SSNIT currently has over 2.09 million active contributors as of August 2025, an increase from 340,000 when the scheme was established in 1965. Additionally, the Trust has about 96,000 active employers, while pensioners on the SSNIT payroll now stand at 257,000, compared to just 33 in 1966. Mr Senya disclosed that a total of GH¢5.1 billion had been paid to beneficiaries as of October 2025, adding that processing time for pensions has been reduced by about 85 % through ongoing reforms. Highlighting SSNIT’s role in Ghana’s development, he said the Trust’s total assets under management currently stand at GH¢24.5 billion, with 99% of investments based in the local economy. These investments span sectors such as real estate, mining, hospitality, agriculture, ICT, manufacturing, energy, insurance, and food and beverages. The Ashanti Regional Area Manager of SSNIT, Henry Imoro, explained that the media engagement sought to strengthen collaboration with journalists to intensify public education and raise awareness on pensions and the Trust’s ongoing initiatives.
