Defending Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division champions Fatima College will play their first competitive game of the 2025 season tomorrow, as they face newly promoted Scarborough Secondary in Shaw Park.
Fatima and St Benedict’s College were both exempted from the weekend’s opening round of matches, due to the close proximity of last Friday’s Super Cup fixture—which Fatima won on penalties.
The decision means Fatima have some ground to make up. And, in Tobago, they face a Scarborough team with their tails-up, after the latter outfit’s exciting recovery to hold Arima North Secondary 3-3 at Shaw Park on the weekend.
Incidentally, the other finishers in the top four of the 2024 Premier Division season are all getting started tomorrow.
St Benedict’s host Queen’s Royal College at the Mahaica Oval Sports Complex in Point Fortin, Presentation College (San Fernando) welcome Trinity College East to the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium and St Anthony’s College are also at their home turf in Westmoorings, where they will face Malick Secondary.
All Premier Division matches kick off at 3.30pm.
Arguably, the match of the day is at the Arima Velodrome where Naparima College, riding high after a 7-0 mauling of Trinity College East, travel to face Arima North Secondary.
Uncharacteristically, the Dial Dynamos conceded three times on the weekend, which might have encouraged the rampant Naparima frontline. However, the contests between these two schools have been close in recent times.
The teams played to a draw 1-1 at Lewis Street, San Fernando last season while Arima North eked out a 1-0 win at the UTT O’Meara Campus in 2023.
Elsewhere, Trinity College (Moka) will face a test of their mettle away to Signal Hill Secondary, as they try to build on a 4-1 opening day win against fellow newly promoted school, Carapichaima East Secondary.
And St Augustine Secondary are also chasing a second straight win as they tackle San Juan North Secondary at Bourg Mulatresse in San Juan.
